Ask Trevor CHT: Thumb pain after CTS surgery

Jim asks:

"I've had carpal tunnel surgery and now I have terrible debilitating pain at the base of my thumb in the carpal bones. Any ideas?"

Trevor's answer:

"Pain at the base of the thumb and palm is pretty common after carpal tunnel surgery. It’s known as “pillar pain” and should resolve over and should resolve within 2-6 weeks after surgery.

If pain persists past this point you would probably do well to consult with your surgeon."
