What is bone fracture?

Hairline crack, a complete separation of the bone into two or more separate pieces caused by accidents.

What are the symptoms?

Pain in the affected area, bruising, swelling and deformity are common symptoms.

How is it treated?

Fractures are usually immobilized in a cast or a splint but some may need surgically placed hardware to maintain stability. Breaks and fractures mostly heal within 3 to 8 weeks, depending on the bone involved and how significant the fracture is.

Repeated fractures or bone breaks can increase your risk of arthritis, by changing the wrist anatomy and damaging the articular cartilage. Joints near the site of fracture that may have some early stage of arthritis and may become more symptomatic due to local swelling and inflammation.
