Let's raise awareness together.

AiArthritis is at the forefront of educating, advocating, and researching for individuals affected by autoimmune and autoinflammatory arthritic conditions.
They don't represent the patient voice; they ARE the patient voice.

What are Autoimmune and Autoinflammatory Diseases?

1 of 10 people live with at least one AiArthritis disease. That's 450 million people worldwide. Chances are that you or someone you know is challenged with these conditions. So what do you need to understand about them?

AiArthritis refers to the type of inflammation-driven arthritis associated with having certain Autoimmune or Autoinflammatory diseases ("AiArthritis Disease"). These diseases are caused by the immune system, which is a network of cells and tissues throughout the body that work to defend us from viruses, bacteria, and infection. In our diseases, immune cells target the body's own healthy tissues by mistake and signals the body to attack them.

While there is no one cause for either autoimmune or autoinflammatory diseases, we do know each originates in a part of the immune system.

Combined there are over 100 autoimmune diseases and autoinflammatory diseases, but only a couple dozen include inflammatory arthritis as a major clinical component in most people ("Autoimmune Arthritis" and "Autoinflammatory Arthritis", or AiArthritis). While the arthritis unites these diseases, because they are autoimmune and autoinflammatory in nature they affect more than just the joints. The inflammation travels through the bloodstream, so these diseases affect the whole body, including tissues and organs.

Approximately 300 million people worldwide are diagnosed with at least one AiArthritis disease. However, research suggests that over 50% of patients go undiagnosed or are diagnosed with a "undifferentiated" disease, increasing this number to an estimated 450 million.

How does AiArthritis support people living with AiArthritis Diseases?

AiArthritis are leaders in advancing education, advocacy, and research for those impacted by
autoimmune and autoinflammatory arthritis (AiArthritis) diseases through peer-led guidance, collaboration, and resources that are driven by patient-identified issues and patient-infused solutions.

AiArthritis collaborate with other organizations, health professionals, and other groups as necessary to make sure the work they do creates the most impact.

Initiatives include:

Education

Addressing misunderstandings, accelerating diagnosis, improving disease management, and advancing global awareness through patient-led awareness days and educational materials.

Advocacy

Impacting policy and legislation through creative approaches, collaborative support, and research advocacy (which we define as using data to influence or improve legislative positions).

Research

Influencing patient-preferred outcomes and patient-included research projects through collaboration, peer-led research debriefs, and data that can expedite diagnosis, improve disease management, and increase access to individualized therapies.

Who does AiArthritis help?

AiArthritis helps those diagnosed, their support network, and the undiagnosed ("Mystery Patients")... because everyone is undiagnosed before they are diagnosed.

What is a patient led approach?

No one can identify what a patient needs most more than those personally impacted by the diseases. So, AiArthritis find a variety of ways to invite patient voices 'to the table' to ensure they are addressing issues that matter most to them and to give them opportunities to be as involved in programs as possible. In turn, the community can take pride in knowing
they helped develop the programs and resources that ultimately can improve their lives and the lives of 450 million people worldwide!

AiArthritis don't represent the patient voice. They are the patient voice.
